Unlock The Guitar Review

Unlock The Guitar

There are almost as many guitar websites and courses out there as there are guitarists, it seems. With so many different options to choose from, beginner guitarists can definitely feel overwhelmed. I know that when I first started looking online for programs and Ebooks to learn from, I was swamped with possibilities. A lot of sites just seemed to offer me way too much, acting like huge depositories of guitar knowledge and lessons but without a clear path for me to follow in a natural way. I had no way of knowing which steps I needed to take and in what order to fulfill my goal of just being able to start playing the instrument.

It took a few weeks of frustration, but eventually I found a system that gave me what I wanted – a concise, beginner-focused guide to becoming a guitarist. The site where I found it was Unlock The Guitar, and their book ‘The Beginner’s Guide To Unlocking The Guitar’ was just what I was looking for. Here’s what arrived at my house when I paid the $69.95 dollars for the book package.

What is in the box?

  • The Beginner’s Guide To Unlocking The Guitar book (also available as an Ebook for $49.95)
  • A beginner’s chord chart
  • Singing techniques for beginners
  • A book containing 150 songs that are based around only 4 chords (great for anyone just starting out who wants to play actual songs as soon as possible)
  • Sounds files for each of the chords which are available on the web

The main thrust of Unlock The Guitar is to get you playing within 48 hours – a weekend, according to their website. I was skeptical but hopeful when I placed my order, and when I sat down with the book on a Friday night after work it only took a few hours to see that maybe they weren’t being optimistic with their claim. Divided into 8 lessons, the book really did have me feeling much more confident about my playing the more and more that I used it. The focus on playing techniques that translated into actual results instead of talking endlessly about theory and chords I had no use for as a beginner was a welcome change from other books I had purchased in the past - books that ended up gathering dust on my book shelf.

Basic chords, playing styles and techniques for memorizing songs were what I found most helpful about the book. I am sure that intermediate guitarists would probably not be all that interested in what the course has to offer, but for beginners, it’s hard to imagine a better resource. Another thing I enjoyed about the book versus an online course is that I could take it to the park with me and sit on the grass and just practice the lessons sitting out in the sun – a great motivator for me, personally. I honestly feel that anyone just starting out with the guitar could really benefit from Unlock The Guitar. Maybe you won’t be playing like a pro in 48 hours, but you will definitely be light years ahead of where you were the day you picked out your guitar at the local music store, and that’s a great base to build on.

Keep on rockin'!
