Jamorama Acoustic Guitar Review

When I first started to get back into playing guitar, I dug my old acoustic out from the back of my closet, dusted it off and slapped a new set of strings on it. It was at that point that I realized I had forgotten most of what I had originally known how to play. Discouraged but not defeated, I went online and searched the web looking for some kind of basic guitar lessons that would help jog my memory and get me started playing again.

What I ended up finding was a solution that went far beyond my expectations. I stumbled upon Jamorama Acoustic Guitar, a program designed by Ben Edwards - a guitarist who had been developing his online learning system for over 5 years.

With over 40,000 students having been taught through his program, I took a chance that I would be amongst those who were satisfied with what he had to offer and ordered it. I figured I didn’t have much to loose in any case, thanks to the 100% money-back guarantee that came with the program if I ended up not being satisfied with Jamorama within the first 2 months.

For $39.95, I got a fairly complete package from Edwards.

What is in the box?

  • 153 video lessons
  • 26 ‘jam tracks
  • Guitar buying tips
  • In-depth tricks and how-to's from Ben Edwards himself

The core of the course is a set of 153 video lessons that walked me step-by-step through a whole bunch of important acoustic guitar concepts. Strumming, picking, scales and a full bag of tips and tricks were illustrated by these videos. Instead of the standard ‘watch and listen to someone else play’ style of video lesson, these actually incorporated different camera angles and close-ups in order to make each lesson as clear as possible. I found myself really able to follow the flow of the instruction without having to pause or rewind on a continual basis, which was a nice break from some of the other courses I had tried in the past.

I also liked the fact that Jamorama provided me with 26 different ‘jam tracks’ – basically backing tracks that I could play along with on my own. It really helped inject some fun into the learning process, and let me try out some musical ideas I had without being worried about getting embarrassed in front of real live players. The package was rounded out by some interesting tips from Ben Edwards with regards to getting a good deal on a guitar and perfecting specific playing techniques.

Bonus features:

  • GuitEarIt! Ear Training game
  • Jayde Musica Pro music reading game
  • Guitar Tuner Pro software and manual
  • Jamorama Metronome

The Jamorama Acoustic program comes with a few neat bonus features as well. The first was an ear-training computer program called GuitEarIt! which was designed to help me identify chords just by their sound. It was presented somewhat like a game – the same style that was also used for the included music-reading software, Jayde Musica Pro. A guitar tuner designed to run on the PC was also provided as a bonus, along with a software metronome that helped me to get my picking up to a quick and steady pace.

Overall, I would recommend the Jamorama Acoustic system to anyone like me who just wants to be able to play their acoustic guitar as quickly as possible. These were some of the best acoustic guitar lessons I have ever had. Jamorama didn’t overwhelm me with musical theory or force me to play awkward scales over and over – it just provided me with a clear pathway towards playing the songs I wanted to be able to play.

Keep on rockin'!
