Guitar Hotshot Review
|
It seemed that a lot of the online guitar lessons that I had been browsing were quite broad and covered a wide range of material. At that point in my playing I had some decent experience with the guitar but I was starting to feel a little overwhelmed with all of the different techniques, methods, scales and modes that the courses I was using had asked me to learn. It almost seemed as though the deeper I delved into guitar theory, the farther away I got from what I actually wanted to do – play rock and roll guitar.
This was when I found GuitarHotShot.com. At first I thought that the GuitarHotShot program would be just like the others I had been using, but it quickly became apparent that the style of teaching being used was much more tightly focused. Instead of trying to turn me into a theoretical guitar master, GuitarHotShot was designed to get me playing what I wanted to play, as fast as possible. Specifically, it provided me with the best rock and lead guitar lessons I had seen online.

The lessons are taught by J. Lewis, a session guitarist and New York City guitar teacher who decided to branch out online in order to reach the largest number of students possible. The methods he uses in his videos are based on his experiences as a session player who was often called upon to switch from one style to another in the same day, He created a system that allows guitarists to pick up new skills in much faster manner than many other courses.
I found that while most of styles taught were quite accessible, the ones that resonated the most with me were the lead rock guitar lessons. Lewis breaks down how to stop worrying about multiple techniques and just focus on a single method that can be applied to a multitude of styles, and this helped me throw away a lot of the baggage that had been holding me back from the rock performance I was searching for on the guitar. His lessons also really helped me out with improvisation and riff generation, which in turn lead me to become a better songwriter.

I honestly feel that the GuitarHotShot.com course is as useful to someone just starting out as a player as it was to someone like myself who had been playing for a while already. Beginners don’t have to worry about re-learning what they already know – they can dive right into the new stuff. More experienced players can take advantage of Lewis’ fresh perspective, as well as the tips and resources he provides regarding music reading and ear training. Overall, GuitarHotShot.com gave me a quick path towards the rock and roll guitar satisfaction that I had been craving.
Keep on rockin'!
